PAIR OF GREEK STYLE CANDLESTICKS – EMPIRE PERIOD

Pair of candlesticks.
Chiseled ormolu.
Empire period.

Height 32 cm

Decorated with friezes of palmettes, laurel and foliage, these candlesticks adopt a neo-Greek decorative repertoire, in vogue during the Empire period.

A similar pair of candlesticks was delivered in 1809 by Thomire-Duterme & Cie for the small apartment of the Empress in Fontainebleau. They have the same baluster shape with a fluted base, as well as the vase-shaped bobeche on top of a smooth shaft and a round foot.
